8 Things You Should Never Do in Office

There are lot of people who and a lot of articles/books that will tell you what you must do in office. But there will be very few who tell you what not to do.
This is where we come in. Every office has its set of dos and don’ts, but then there is also a set of general don’ts that you need to keep in mind. We are here to list these general don’ts for you and we are sure they will help you stay clear of getting embarrassed in office.

1. Peep into someone’s laptop/desktop
The most annoying person in office is the one who peeps into his colleagues laptop screen. Make sure you are not this annoying person. No matter the urge to see what other people are up to, you must save yourself the embarrassment of being labelled the office’s peeping tom.

2. Walk around like you own the place

Government employees working efficiently is always a pleasant surprise

Good news is rare when it comes to the functioning of our government departments. Corruption, sloth, misuse of power, muscle-flexing , delays, unresponsiveness and red tape are the typical things that we encounter every time we deal with our bureaucratic machinery.
This is unfortunate. But more unfortunate is that even when we occasionally witness a polite, functioning and efficient segment of the machinery, it goes unnoticed and unapplauded. A few years ago, one could have said (and one did in these columns), for instance, that our post and telegraph department was one of the better functioning ones, with their ubiquitous postmen doing more honest work than most other government servants.

White paper on Black Money

On Monday, the government tabled its much-awaited White Paper on black money in the Parliament.

The 97-page document tabled by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee made a strong case for setting up Lokpal and Lokayuktas. Though, there was no was mention of government's estimate of black money within and outside the country, it pitched for courts to expeditiously deal with the offence.

To ensure that this menace is curtailed in the future, it suggested tax incentives for encouraging use of debit and cards as these lead audit trails.

Educational loans with PAN Card only

Several banks have made it mandatory this year to give educational loans only to those who have permanent account number (PAN) in view of increasing non-performing assets (NPAs) in educational loans. In the event of a guardian or a co-borrower existing, he/she must produce a PAN card, a reliable source said.
Though some banks are demanding PAN only at a later stage, after disbursing the loan, some leading banks like State Bank of India (SBI) might be insisting on PAN for even processing the educational loan application forms.
The new eligibility criterion is being enforced due to difficulties faced in contacting the borrower after he/she completes his/her studies.

Garlic's medicinal properties are well known; so go ahead and add it to your diet.
For centuries garlic has been used as a medicinal and culinary substance in India, China, Greece and other countries. It has been used as a salve for everything from headaches to colds to infections and healing wounds. To some, however, the strong flavour of garlic is not very appealing; in fact repelling. Therefore, although garlic is a widely available spice, it is not very popular in some households.
Garlic does not make significant nutritional contribution to the diet because the quantities added to recipes are small. But even these nano amounts make a big difference to one's health.

The biological benefits and the distinct odour of garlic are attributed to the many sulphur containing compounds; one of which is Alliin. This compound is converted to Allicin when garlic is crushed. Allicin is, perhaps, the principal bioactive compound present even in processed garlic.
